Maryland Teen Killed After Tree Topples During Storm

A 14-year-old girl died after a tree fell onto a car in Baltimore County

Torrential rain and strong winds toppled trees and branches onto numerous homes and cars in the D.C. region Thursday.

In Baltimore County, a 14-year-old girl was killed after a tree fell onto a car, WBAL reported. A 16-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl were also injured.

First responders were busy responding to a reported gas leak in the Lake Barcroft area of Fairfax County, Virginia, dealing with downed trees along the way.

One tree pulled down a power line and forced police to close the eastbound lanes of Columbia Pike, snarling traffic around the Barcroft Plaza Shopping Center.

Several NBC4 viewers in Virginia reported hail as the strong storms made their way through.

As of 5 a.m. Friday, more than 1,400 Dominion Energy customers were without power. Baltimore Gas and Electric reported more than 8,000 of its customers were without power.
