Stephen Strasburg To Start Game 1 Of NLDS

The Nationals announced that Stephen Strasburg will start Game 1 of the NLDS against the Giants on Friday afternoon at Nationals Park.

Strasburg finished the season with a 14-11 record, 3.14 ERA and a .245 batting-average against. He struck out 242 batters, which finished tied for the National League lead and fifth overall in the majors.

Of course, this will be Strasburg's postseason debut after being shut down prior to Washington's last playoff appearance in 2012. He will be opposed by San Francisco's Jake Peavy after ace Madison Bumgarner threw a four-hit shutout in the Giants' 8-0 victory against the Pirates to advance to the NLDS on Wednesday.

Jordan Zimmermann, who threw the first no-hitter in Nationals history last weekend, will start Game 2 on Saturday. Doug Fister will start Game 3 in San Francisco on Monday.

As for ceremonial first pitches, Olympian Katie Ledecky will have that honor Friday.
