Sources: Human Remains Found in Southeast DC Could Be Murder Suspect

Multiple sources tell News4 that human remains found in Southeast D.C. over the weekend may belong to a man who is a suspect in as many as three murders.

Metropolitan Police said they responded to a report of human remains found in the 2600 block of 30th Street SE about 10 a.m. Saturday.

When police arrived they recovered the remains and opened a death investigation to determine the manner and cause of death.

Sources said Monday the remains are of a man who suffered a gunshot wound to the head. A gun and identification were also found at the scene. The medical examiner is working to confirm that the identification matches the person's identity.

"We're doing some preliminary things to identify who the person is. Obviously, we have to go through some DNA issues, etc. But we'll work very closely with the medical examiner on them," Assistant Chief Robert Contee said at a news conference.

D.C. police confirmed Monday the U.S. Marshal's Office is also working on the case.
