Sunday is technically the first day of spring, but it could look a lot more like winter in our region.
A wintry mix of snow and rain began Saturday in parts of the District and surrounding areas and is expected to continue off and on through Sunday.
Storm Team4 meteorologist Amelia Segal said it is not likely the snow will stick to the roads in most areas as temperatures will stay above freezing.
"For most of us it's an inch or less and only wet roads," Segal said.
Temperatures will begin to fall Saturday from the 40s to the 30s in advance of the approaching storm.
Storm Team4 meteorologist Tom Kierein said by Sunday at noon, Washington will only have a dusting of snow on the ground. Areas north and west of the city may see up to one inch of snow on grassy areas.
Kierein said elevations about 1,000 feet to the west of D.C. could see anywhere from 2 to 6 inches. He said any snow event will likely end as rain Sunday afternoon.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Friday the city will deploy more than 100 snow plows at 9 p.m. on Saturday as a precaution. VDOT said it will also be monitoring the weather and deploy crews as needed.
Segal said the biggest impact on the roads will be Monday morning when there is potential for icey conditions.
