An investigation to determine what's killing dolphins in Virginia is getting help from a Smithsonian museum scientist.
Charley Potter with the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History dealt with the nation's largest dolphin die-off in 1987.
More than 100 dolphin corpses have washed ashore in Virginia this year. Potter tells The Virginian-Pilot that he's concerned that a majority of the dolphins has been juvenile males. He says many are in seemingly good body condition.
Researchers are performing necropsies in an attempt to solve the mystery. Potter says the investigation will take weeks at a minimum.
