Small Apartment Fire Kills Woman in Oxon Hill

One person was killed after an apartment fire in Oxon Hill, Maryland, early Sunday morning.

Prince George’s County Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady said crews were called to the 600 block of Audrey Lane around 5 a.m. to a third floor apartment where a smoke alarm was sounding. After entering the apartment, they discovered and extinguished a small fire.

A woman was found in the area of the fire origin and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The alarm, while working, was located in a hallway closet. Brady said the alarm was still able to detect smoke and emitted an audible warning, but it was likely delayed due to its location.

Damage was minimal and contained to the third-floor apartment. The victim’s identity has not been released.
