Mother of 7-Year-Old Sex Assault Victim: “We're Moving”

The mother of a 7-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted behind an apartment complex told News4 she and her daughter will be moving at the end of the month.

The girl was riding a bike with her friends around 3 p.m. June 22 at the Woods of Marlton apartment complex on Heathermore Boulevard in Upper Marlboro, Md., when she wandered away from the group.

Officials said a man then abducted her at gunpoint, took her behind a row of apartments in the complex and sexually assaulted her. He then ran from the scene.

"Burn in hell for hurting our whole community and a whole family for a sick gratification," the girl's mother said she would tell her daughter's attacker. "Burn in hell."

She and daughter have been undergoing counseling, and she told News4's Shomari Stone Tuesday, and she is planning on moving at the end of the month. The memories at their Upper Marlboro apartment complex are just too painful.

"It hurts," she said, holding back tears.

The suspect is described as a white man with an average build, and at the time of the incident, he had short cropped hair with a receding hairline. He also had a goatee-style salt-and-pepper beard, as well as a piercing in his tongue described as a round ball.

Police have spent days canvassing Upper Marlboro, handing out the sketch of the man to passersby.

If you have any information on the man's identity, contact police at 301-772-4908. A cash reward is being offered.
