Sex Abuse Allegation at Va. Home Day Care

A man whose Virginia home has served as a day care for young children is accused of sexually abusing a child.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office charged 52-year-old Juan Alejandro Rodriguez, 52, with sexual abuse of a child under 13.

“It’s so disgusting to me that somebody would take advantage of a small child,” Sheriff Mike Chapman said.

The alleged victim’s parents called deputies  Aug. 27 immediately after picking their child up at the Sterling day care and apparently noticing the abuse.

Deputies followed up.

“They look at physical evidence, they look at testimonial evidence, they interview anybody involved or around the periphery of anything that could’ve happened there,” Chapman said.

“It’s very shocking to me because I never thought he would do something like that,” said neighbor Katherine Hernandez. “I feel so sad at the same time because somebody would do that to a little kid.”

Investigators say when they made the arrest the unlicensed in-home daycare provider was also above the number of children legally permitted.

Deputies say the providers’ been running the daycare out of the home on Carousel Court since October 2000, so they’re looking for other possible victims.

“There were other kids that were also staying there,” Chapman said. "We're working with Child Protective Services making sure that the families are all interviewed and any suspicious activity involving the kids is reported."

Another neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, questions the allegations.

“That man wouldn’t do nothing like that,” he said. "He wouldn’t do nothing like that because he’s a good man.”
