A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect in Virginia Tuesday afternoon and evening.
The warning for southern Prince William, northeastern Stafford and east central Fauquier counties expired at 9:45 p.m.
The storms were said to be capable of producing hail and damaging winds.
Strong storms began moving through the region again Tuesday afternoon. A couple storms produced some small hail.
Early Tuesday morning, strong storms swept through the D.C. area, leaving downed trees and wires in their wake. Thousands of lightning strikes were reported during the height of the storms. Authorities will investigate whether lightning was the cause of an early-morning house fire in Howard County.
