Seven Injured after Buggy, Car Collide in Maryland

Seven people were injured after a car and an Amish buggy collided early Saturday morning in Mechanicsville, Maryland, according to the Maryland State Police.

Troopers were called to Maryland Route 6 at Culver Lane just after midnight. When they arrived, they saw an Amish buggy overturned on the side of the road.

Three helicopters were called in to transport two adults and five children who were in the buggy at the time of the accident to Washington, D.C., hospitals. Their conditions are not known.

The driver of the car and a passenger were treated at the scene and released.

Investigators said the buggy was traveling on the shoulder of westbound Route 6 while the car was also traveling westbound. The buggy attempted to make a left turn onto Culver Lane when it was struck by the car.

All seven people inside the buggy were ejected. The horse was also injured and released to other family members who arrived at the scene.

Investigators don’t know why the car and buggy collided. Scene reconstruction is still ongoing.
