Seat Pleasant Police Chief Devan Martin is injured after he was involved in a motorcycle crash Thursday night, police say.
Authorities said the crash occurred while Martin was on duty and riding a police-issued motorcycle in the 6100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway. His motorcycle collided with a car.
Drivers in the area hurried to help Martin, Prince George's County Police Chief Hank Stawinski said.
"To see our community rush to help an officer who's down, we all as a community need to feel good about that," he said.
Martin was taken to the Prince George's Hospital Center in critical condition. Prince George's County police said a short time later his injuries were not life-threatening.
A spokeswoman for the Seat Pleasant Police Department said Friday morning that Martin is expected to make a full recovery.
