The Fairfax County school district may take extreme measures to relieve overcrowding at an elementary school.
The school board voted Wednesday to use eminent domain, if necessary, to acquire a vacant five-story commercial property at 6245 Leesburg Pike.
The Washington Post reported officials want to use the empty office tower to alleviate severe crowding at Bailey's Elementary, which is running 30 percent over capacity.
The property being considered is not currently for sale. Eminent domain allows the school district to take private property and provide the owner with "just" compensation.
