School Bus Driver Commended for Out-of-Control Bus Incident

HAYFIELD, Va. -- A school bus driver in Fairfax County was commended for heroic action after losing control of her bus Thursday afternoon.

The driver, who has 17 years of experience, was leaving Hayfield Secondary School when the bus apparently skidded on the wet driveway. The bus crossed Telegraph Road, jumped the curb and was headed toward the front door of Hayfield Elementary School. It jumped at least four more curbs before stopping.

The driver is credited for avoiding a crossing guard, students and cars.

About a half dozen students on the bus were treated for minor bumps and bruises.
