If You Haven't Dealt With Your Samsung Galaxy Note7 Yet, Here's What to Do

Samsung Electronics is discontinuing production of Galaxy Note7 smartphones permanently, after reports of fires started by the popular phone.

After an earlier recall, the company said it had identified a manufacturing defect in the batteries of its top-of-the-line smartphone.

But reports that even the replacements were catching fire led Samsung to announce it was stopping sales of the devices.

Samsung will either provide a full refund at the original price or replace Note7 units with any other model of Samsung phone, and give refunds of the difference in prices, along with a 300 yuan ($45) voucher.

If you have a Galaxy Note7, make sure to keep it turned off. The company says is even providing fire-resistant packages to its customers in the U.S.; one video posted to You Tube shows a consumer unpacking a kit containing a static shield bag, thermally insulated boxes and gloves.

Those returns can only be shipped via ground transportation, according statements that UPS, FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service sent to News4 Wednesday.

To exchange your phone, contact the store where you bought your phone (see a list of phone numbers and websites on Samsung's site here). If you bought it from Samsung.com or have questions, call the company at 844-365-6197.
