Rockville Man Drowns at Assateague Island National Seashore

A Rockville, Maryland, man drowned after going for a late-night swim at the Assateague Island National Seashore over the weekend.

Oniruddo Paul Somroy, 28, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital early Sunday morning, said Liz Davis, a spokesperson for the national park.

Somroy had been on the beach with a friend when he decided to go for a swim at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, reported the Daily Times of Salisbury.

He soon began to struggle, and his friend lost contact with him.

His friend then called 911, and park rangers searching for Somroy found him in the surf about an hour after he went missing.
