Resident Seriously Injured, Firefighter Burned in Apartment Fire

A dozen apartments were destroyed by fire on Friday night, seriously injuring one resident and causing burns to a firefighter in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department said three floors of an apartment building in the 700 block of Southern Hills Drive in Cape St. Claire, Maryland, were on fire when firefighters arrived shortly before 11:30 p.m. They said 12 apartments were destroyed.

Seven people were displaced by the fire damage and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Fire officials said one resident, a 70-year-old man, was taken to the Anne Arundel Medical Center with serious injuries due to smoke inhalation. One firefighter suffered minor burns and was taken the Johns Hopkins Burn Center in Baltimore.

Investigators have not revealed a cause of the fire. Firefighters from Anne Arundel County, Annapolis city, and the Naval Academy came to the scene.
