Police in D.C. have launched an arson investigation after firefighters combating a blaze in a Southeast Washington apartment found a man bound and injured on the floor in the burning building.
The fire started on the 4500 block of 3rd Street SE around 7 p.m. Monday.
Firefighters found a man on the floor with his arms tied behind his back and severe injuries to his face, police said. He was taken to the hospital with "survivable" injuries, D.C. Cheif of Police Peter Newsham said.
The victim also suffered from smoke inhalation, Newsham said.
Newsham said the dispute was between the victim and someone else in the home. There were no signs of forced entry, he said.
Several residents were also treated at the scene.
The American Red Cross in the National Capital Region said they would be assisting displaced residents.
