Comstock Wins ‘Firehouse' Primary

Fairfax Co. delegate Barbara Comstock is the GOP's choice to succeed retiring Congressman Frank Wolf.

Comstock won a "firehouse" primary Saturday with about 54 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results. In this primary, voters in the 10th congressional district could cast ballots at 10 special polling sites Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Republican Party, rather than the State Board of Elections, conducted the balloting.

Turnout in the district, which stretches from McLean through parts of Loudoun and Prince William counties and out to Winchester, was strong, with half-hour waits to vote reported in some locations.

Comstock is a former aide to Wolf and was co-chair of Mitt Romney's Virginia presidential campaign. She will face Democrat John Foust in the fall, in a race that is expected to receive national attention.

In the 8th Congressional District, News4's Julie Carey reported, Micah Edmond won the GOP nomination.
