Reports: Max Scherzer, Nationals Agree to 7-Year Contract

According to various reports, the Nationals and free-agent pitcher Max Scherzer have agreed to a seven-year contract.

The Washington Post and CBS originally reported the blockbuster agreement. Neither the Nationals nor Scherzer's agent, Scott Boras, iimmediately responded to requests for comment,

Last season with the Tigers, Scherzer was 18-5 with a 3.15 ERA after winning the American League Cy Young Award in 2013 with a 21-3 record. He has been an All-Star in each of the past two seasons. Last year, he turned down a $144-million contract offer from Detroit.

The 30-year-old has played for Detroit and Arizona during his seven-year career. Nationals GM Mike Rizzo selected Scherzer with the 11th pick in the 2006 draft while serving as the Diamondbacks' scouting director.

With Scherzer reportedly on board, the Nationals' rotation is undoubtedly the best in baseball. He joins Jordan Zimmermann, Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez and former Tiger Doug Fister.
