Reported Northeast D.C. Explosion Apparently Fireworks: Police

An explosion a few blocks from Union Station in northeast D.C. appears to be fireworks, according to D.C. police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump.

The incident began when D.C. Fire received a report of a possible backpack explosion in an alley in Northeast at 6:41 p.m. Firefighters responded in three minutes, according to Timothy Wilson, of D.C. Fire.

Police stopped someone and are talking to him, Crump said.

Neighbors heard an explosion and felt homes shake, News4's Darcy Spencer reported. One witness said it sounded like a bomb.

No injuries were reported. A backpack was found, containing more fireworks.

D.C. fire special ops and D.C. police responded to the scene.

No one was hurt in the incident and police say one man was arrested, The Associated Press reported.
