Families Welcome New Year Babies

Region's first baby of 2012 born at 12:12 a.m.

A few area families had an extra special New Year celebration this weekend.

While not official, it appears that Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton won the race to host the region's first baby of 2012. Irja Bonafede of Upper Marlboro gave birth to a girl at 12:12 a.m. This is the third child and first girl for Bonafede and her husband, Greg. Sons Leo, 5, and Dean, 3, are reportedly very excited to have a baby sister. Baby Bonafede has not yet been given a name.

At 12:49 a.m. Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville welcomed a baby boy weighing 7 pounds, 14 ounces. The unidentified mother and unnamed child are reportedly doing well.

Just 12 minutes later, Lulea Liesl Rader was born to Corima and Nathan Rader at Inova Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg. Lulea is the third girl born to the Raders, who recently moved to Sterling from Sweden with their children.

Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park welcomed its first delivery at 3:47 a.m. A baby girl was born to an unidentified mother weighing 8 pounds, 5.6 ounces. Both are doing well.
