FREDERICK, Md. -- Business is bombing almost everywhere, which is probably why beer is selling better.
"Despite the recession, people are still drinking beer," said Matt Brophy, who runs the Flying Dog Brewery in Frederick.
Not only is his business not suffering, it's flourishing. Business is up 14 percent from the same period last year, Brophy said.
That may not be helping bars, but it's helping Flying Dog. Brophy's seeing a shift from people going into bars to buy beer toward going into liquor stores and taking their meat home.
According to industry statistics, beer sales were up last year. Brophy expects the trend to continue.
"In good times, people like to drink and celebrate," he said. "In bad times, people like to drink. I don't think that's changing anytime soon."
