D.C. voters will be able to decide whether to make pot legal this fall.
A proposition to legalize marijuana in the District will be included on the Nov. 4 ballot. The D.C Board of Elections approved the ballot question Wednesday, reported News4's Tom Sherwood.
The D.C. Cannabis Campaign said last month that it had collected 55,000 signatures to get a marijuana legalization bill on the ballot. They delivered those signatures -- more than twice as many as required -- to the Board of Elections on July 7.
Marijuana was decriminalized in the District earlier this summer, but this initiative would take efforts a step further.
If voters were to approve Question 71, it would become legal to possess up to two ounces of marijuana, grow up to six plants, and share (but not sell) up to an ounce of marijuana to anyone 21 or older. The measure would also make it legal to use or sell drug paraphernalia.
