Report: Publix Looking to Open Stores in VA

Publix, a popular grocery chain based in Florida, wants to open new locations in the D.C. area, according to a report from the Washington Business Journal.

A spokesperson for Publix told WBJ the chain is looking to open stores throughout Virginia, including in Northern Virginia. It is not known if the company will attempt to open in the District or other parts of the region.

The buzz about Publix apparently started after representatives for the company showed up to a conference last week at the National Harbor, WBJ reports. Publix held several meetings with brokers and conference-goers.

According to WBJ, Virginia is the first new state Publix has entered in four years and the chain currently has more than 1,100 stores in six states.
