A new bill proposed by a D.C. councilman would prevent kids from stepping back on the field after suffering a concussion.
Council member Phil Mendelson, with support from Redskins GM Bruce Allen, introduced the bill Monday.
The bill would require young athletes to be removed from practice or a game is it's thought they suffered a concussion.
The athlete could only return to play if he or she was cleared by a licensed health care provider.
The legislation is based on a law introduced in Washington state, and similar laws have been passed in Connecticut and Oregon.
The NFL has backed the legislation, as more and more studies are coming out showing the long-lasting effects of concussions in professional football players.
