A postal employee who pleaded guilty to attempting to steal mail with checks was sentenced to two years probation.
Lisa Hunter was arrested in June after a police officer working for the postal service saw her attempting to leave a post office mail processing center in Washington with a cart full of mail. The letters were addressed to two charities and contained checks and cash.
Hunter pleaded guilty in September to a charge of obstruction of the mail, which carries a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a fine.
Hunter's attorney and prosecutors both argued before she was sentenced Friday that she should get probation.
