Police: Teen Detained After Fire at Bowie Home

Police are holding an 18-year-old in custody in relation to the blaze

Police have detained a teen in connection to a house fire in Bowie, Maryland, authorities say.

Firefighters responded to the home in the 2900 block of Brierdale Lane Saturday night.

They extinguished the fire at around 9:25 p.m., according to Prince George's County Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady.

Bowie police said officers were holding an 18-year-old man at the scene until fire investigators arrive. The teen will undergo a mental evaluation, police said.

No charges have been filed.

Brady said everyone inside the home made it out safely and one firefighter who was injured was transported to a burn unit for treatment of burn injuries that were not life threatening.

Video of the fire showed flames gushing through the roof of the house, sending plumes of grey smoke into the air as neighbors watched from a distance.

The cause of the fire is unclear, but was reported on the second floor of the building and in the attic.

Anne Arundel County firefighters also provided aid.
