Pregnant Teen Stabbed Near School in Maryland: Police

A man who is believed to be in a relationship with the woman has been arrested, police say

Montgomery County police have identified the man charged with stabbing a 19-year-old woman who is several months pregnant.

Dakota Brothers, 18, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, police said Thursday.

Montgomery County police said the woman was walking with the suspect on a path near the Crossway Community Montessori School at 3015 Upton Drive when the man stabbed her in the upper body about 3:20 p.m.

The woman was conscious at the scene and was taken to a trauma center in serious condition. She is now in critical, but stable condition, authorities told News4. The unborn baby also survived.

After the stabbing, plain clothes officers spotted Brothers and said he ran off and resisted arrest. Officers arrested the suspect near Palmira Lane and Dauphine Street in Silver Spring after using a stun gun on him, police said.

The school was put on lockdown for a short time after the stabbing, but no one inside the school was in danger, police said.

"It's surprising that something like this would happen because it's always seemed calm. When we pick up the children, there's never been any problem," said Tarver Lamnamg, a Wheaton resident.

Brothers will appear in court for a bond review Thursday afternoon.
