Two officers are suspended while officials investigate an incident in which an officer discharged his gun, according to Prince George's County police.
Videotape evidence does not support the initial account of Friday's incident in Brentwood, Md., police said Monday.
Authorities said earlier that the officer fired his weapon during a confrontation with a man who started to reach for the officer's gun.
The incident stemmed from what two officers believed might be a robbery attempt at a gas station. The officers said they witnessed two people wearing masks enter the gas station. Police followed and one of the masked people took a swing and then fled. The officers caught up with him in front of construction company.
That's where he reached for the gun, the officers said. Surveillance video shows the two officers approaching the man from behind. One appears to reach for something at his waist and then strike the man in the head, at which time a flash, possibly a gunshot, can be seen, News4's Darcy Spencer reported.
“He was not resisting any type of arrest,” attorney Jimmy Bell said. “He complied. He was hit in the back of the head with a gun. The gun went off, and he was beaten in his back.”
Both officers have been suspended.
Assault charges against the suspect, 19-year-old Ryan Keith Dorm, of Cottage City, were dropped, but he is still being held on $15,000 on additional charges.

Bell said all charges should be dropped because officers will not want to testify in court due to the discrepancy, Spencer reported.
The State's Attorney's Office is investigating.
