The Virginia home of one of the country's largest ever Powerball winners has been destroyed in a fire.
Firefighters responded to the Bland County, Virginia, home Friday morning and declared it a total loss, West Virginia's Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports.
Rocky Gap Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dino Willis says the home belonged to Powerball winner Jack Whittaker and his wife. He says Whittaker's wife was at home at the time, but got out safely.
Officials believe the fire started in the kitchen.
Jack Whittaker was a 55-year-old West Virginia businessman when he won more than $314 million on Christmas Day 2002. He holds the record for the second highest Powerball Jackpot claimed by an individual.
The home is a few miles south of the West Virginia border.
