A bomb squad was called to investigate a possible old piece of military ordnance Wednesday morning in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, police said.
A construction crew found the thermos-sized item at about 9 a.m. while clearing trees, the Anne Arundel County Police said.
Route 198 was closed between Routes 32 and 295 but reopened about two hours later after the fire department disposed of the device, police said.
Responders do not know whether the item was a live ordinance, but police said they handled it as if it were.
