Prayer may soon be part of the Frederick County, Md., commissioners’ public meetings.
Republican Frederick County Board of Commissioners President Blaine Young suggested implementing the prayer at the start of the meetings.
The county attorney suggested the prayer be modeled after the policy Chesterfield County, Va., adopted. According to the policy, legislative prayer is constitutional, as long as it’s nonsectarian, voluntary and avoids references to any particular religion, denomination or sect. It stood up in court, when it was challenged by a Wiccan priestess who was banned from giving an invocation.
The Frederick County board is expected to discuss the issue Thursday.
