Police: Woman Stole Thousands From Elderly Person

A woman has been charged with a newly enacted law after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from an elderly person in Alexandria.

Tisa Dorsey, 29, was arrested and charged with financial exploitation of a mentally incapacitated person on Dec. 11. Dorsey worked as a cleaning woman at the victim's home. Police say between May 2012 and August 2013, Dorsey stole over 100 checks from the resident, cashing them in for a total of $87,415.

Dorsey is the first person to face this charge in Alexandria. The state law went into effect July 1, 2013.

Police say the law aims to protect residents who may not be able to help themselves and often find themselves at the mercy of their caregivers.
