Police: Woman Shot While Holding Child in District Heights

A woman who was holding a child inside a house in District Heights, Maryland, was struck by a stray bullet while a boyfriend and girlfriend argued outside, police say.

Prince George's County police say man drove to a home on Senator Avenue with his friends to break up with his girlfriend.

When he got to the house, he started arguing with his girlfriend and they were hitting each other outside, police said.

At one point, police say someone shot a gun in the direction of the girlfriend outside. The bullet missed her, but went into the home and struck a woman, police said. 

Police said the woman, a relative, was holding a 4-year-old child in her arms and they both fell on the ground.

Medics took both the woman and child to the hospital and they are expected to be OK.

Police say the boyfriend and his friends quickly drove off after the shooting.

Police do not know who fired the shot.
