Police: Man Sexually Assaults Woman Near Jogging Trail in Bowie

Police in Bowie, Maryland, are searching for a man who attacked a woman along a jogging trail and sexually assaulted her on Monday.

The woman told police that the man appeared from a wooded area near Jennings Mill Drive and Jennings Lane in Bowie about 4:30 p.m. and sexually assaulted her. She was able to fight him off, and he fled the area.

The suspect is described as a heavy set African-American man. He was wearing a gray-hooded shirt and black pants, police said.

Police released surveillance video of a person of interest Wednesday that shows a man riding a bike. The man was wearing a gray hoodie and dark pants.

Police later said they found the person of interest. Police sources told News4's Shomari Stone the person of interest was not involved in the assault and he was cooperating with investigators.

Prince George’s County police officers returned to the area Wednesday night to pass out flyers with information about the attack.
