Police Fatally Shoot Man in Southeast DC

NBC Universal, Inc. News4’s Shomari Stone reports that police were in the area to serve a temporary protective order before some kind of incident led to a shooting.

D.C. police shot and killed a 30-year-old man in Southeast Monday.

The shooting took place before 5 p.m. in the 1300 block of Congress Street SE just south of the Congress Heights Metro Station near 13th Street.

The man's name has not been released.

Police went to the area to serve a temporary protective order. They have not released more details about the shooting.

A source close to the investigation told News4's Shomari Stone that there was a domestic dispute between the 30-year-old and a woman.

The officer was not hurt.

Some people who live in the neighborhood said they want to know why the officer opened fire and want to see body camera footage. They waited on the other side of the police tape as authorities continued their investigation in the apartment building where the shooting occurred.
