Body in ‘Gang-Related' Killing Found in Fairfax Co. Park: Police

Police uncovered a body buried in North Hill Park and believe the killing is gang-related

After more than a day of searching, police have found a body buried in a Fairfax County park. They believe the killing is gang-related.

An investigative lead told police that there may be in the body in the woods of the Hybla Park area, Fairfax County police said at a news conference on Thursday. Police began sweeping the area on Wednesday, but were unable to find anything.

Police say officers secured the scene and resumed the search in North Hill Park on Thursday, eventually finding a freshly-dug grave in a wooded area.

Human remains were found in the grave, police say. Police were just beginning to remove the body from the hole in the ground as they provided an update on Thursday, and had not yet determined the age or sex of the victim.

The medical examiner will investigate the deceased's identity and cause of death.

Police Chief Edwin Roessler said there is a high probability this was a targeted killing related to gang activity. Police do not believe there is a threat to the general public.
