A D.C. police officer shot and wounded a man Wednesday night after police say the man raised a gun toward the officer.
Members of the Fourth District saw a man holding a handgun on the 700 block of Park Road NW, near Georgia Avenue, about 10:20 p.m., police said in a statement Thursday.
Officers ordered the man, 28-year-old Kenneth Burley of Southeast D.C., to drop the gun, but he ignored the commands and raised the gun toward an officer, police said.
The officer fired his service weapon, hitting Burley. The officer was not hurt.
Burley fled but officers quickly found him. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Burley was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault on a police officer and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Police distributed photos of the handgun they found on the scene.
