For a second year, a Maryland teenager will take to the basketball court to benefit kids who need a hand Sunday.
Points for Panthers is a one-woman hoop-a-thon. Stone Ridge High School junior Kathryn Maloney, 16, raised more than $6,000 for Washington Jesuit Academy by making 2,500 shots last year.
โWe are a school for underprivileged kids, grades five through eight, all boys,โ WJA Headmaster Marcus Washington said. โWe go to school 11 hours of the day, 11 months out of the year, and you have to work very, very hard, and weโre going to put a lot of resources into you to help the mind, body and spirit grow to be the best that it possibly can be.โ
Every penny that funds WJA comes from donations like Kathrynโs.
โIt means that youโre doing great work and it means that there are great people out there that can help ensure that WJA continues well into the future,โ Washington said. โIt means that the message of community service, the message that we all have something that we can give back is resonating out there with our young kids.โ
