One person was hospitalized with serious injuries after a stairwell collapsed at an apartment building in southwest D.C. Monday evening.
A delivery person was moving large furniture when the stairwell at the building in the 4300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SW collapsed, injuring the delivery person.
People who lived on upper floors were unable to get to or from their apartments until firefighters shored up the stairwell from the base, a temporary fix until permanent repairs can be made.
Northbound MLK Avenue was closed in the area.
The injured person was taken to Howard University Hospital.
