The bodies of two people were found at separate locations early Friday in the Rockville area, police in Maryland said.

One body was found inside a car stopped at an intersection on Shady Grove Road; hours later, a second was found not far away, outside the Sleep Inn Hotel in Rockville.

Montgomery County police are conducting death investigations in both cases.

"Right now, there's no active threat to the community. At this point, our detectives are looking into both cases, and these are active investigations," said Montgomery County police spokesperson Carlos Cortes.

The first body was found about 3:15 a.m., when officers on routine patrol came across a white BMW stopped in the middle of Shady Grove Road, police said.

Montgomery County police officers investigating a white BMW stopped at the intersection of Shady Grove Road and Research Boulevard found someone dead inside the car. News4’s Joseph Olmo reports live from the scene.

Officers found a dead person in the driver's seat and called detectives. Shady Grove Road was closed in both directions between Interstate 270 and West Montgomery Avenue (MD-28) in Rockville, Montgomery County police said.

The body was taken to the medical examiner's office in Baltimore. An autopsy will be conducted to confirm the cause and manner of death, police said.

Police are investigating whether there are any cameras in the area. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Hours after that incident, another person was found dead outside the Sleep Inn, less than half a mile away.

There's no word yet on what happened or whether this person was a guest at the hotel. There were about 20 evidence markers on the ground as police tried to figure out what happened there.

Police are investigating whether the two deaths are connected. Police have not said what caused either person's death, nor have they released details about their identities.
