A pedestrian was struck and killed by a CSX freight train in Germantown early Friday, leading to delays on MARC's Brunswick Line during the morning rush hour.
The man was hit on the tracks near the Germantown MARC station at 19330 Mateny Hill Road, Montgomery County Police said. They responded shortly after 1:35 a.m.
The man died at the scene. Detectives are working to identify him.
It's unknown why he was on the tracks.

A CSX spokesperson said the striking train had two locomotives and 28 cars, and was carrying a variety of freight. The train had originated in the Brunswick area of Maryland and was making local stops to customers in the Metro area. It is being held during the investigation.
During the ensuing investigation, MARC trains were held at four stations along the Brunswick Line, reopened around 7 a.m. Those trains operated 30-80 minutes late.
