Pedestrian Struck Along Busy Prince George's Street

A pedestrian crossing a busy Langley Park, Md. street Monday is expected to live after being struck by a car.

The accident happened at University Boulevard and 14th Avenue, a heavily trafficked area, without crosswalks for several blocks. It has become a hot spot for pedestrian accidents, so much that local officials installed a fence along parts of the median.

Bakery owner Carlos Ramirez told News4 he often sees people sprinting accross University Boulevard, narrowly skipping fast-moving vehicles.

"This has been a problem almost every day," Ramirez said. "It was terrible to see someone on the floor, bleeding."

The driver in Monday's accident told News4 the pedestrian "darted" onto the street when she struck him. He was hospitalized but is expected to be OK.
