A man died Sunday after a car crashed into another car, pinning him between the second car and a retaining wall, D.C. police said.
A Chevrolet Cruz traveling east on V Street SE struck a Chevrolet Malibu traveling south on 16th Street SE about 3 p.m. Sunday, sending the Malibu partially airborne, a witness told police. The Malibu came to rest partially on its side.
Bystanders helped push the Malibu back on all four tires, the witness said. The witness also saw a man on the sidewalk suffering severe injuries.
The witness told police the driver of the Cruz got into an argument with a woman in which the woman hit the driver before the driver drove away at a high rate of speed, running two stop signs before hitting the Malibu.
Police said surveillance video shows the Cruz running the stop sign at 16th and V streets at an apparent high rate of speed before hitting the Malibu.
The pedestrian, 31-year-old Abdul Seck of Bronx, New York, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Two adults and two children in the Malibu were taken to a hospital. The driver was in critical but stable condition with head injuries. The front seat passenger also suffered head injuries. The children in the back were treated for cuts to the face.

The driver of the Cruz, 21-year-old Dejuan Marshall, was taken to a hospital with a minor head injury but declined treatment and was taken into police custody, police said.
Marshall denied speeding through the stop signs, saying he may have slowly rolled through them, police said.
Police also interviewed Marshall’s girlfriend, who said she saw him stop at both stop signs and he wasn’t driving too fast, police said. She also denied she had a fight with Marshall. She said she heard the crash but didn’t see it.
Marshall is charged with second-degree murder.
Seck’s parents said he was in town visiting a friend for the holiday. They said he dreamed of becoming a mechanical engineer.
D.C.’s Department of Transportation said it will add two more stop signs at the intersection to make it and all ways stop intersection. They also plan to put in speed bumps to make the intersection safer.
