Police: Student Recorded Woman Showering in Dorm

A 19-year-old George Mason University student was arrested for allegedly recording a woman while she was taking a shower at a freshman dorm.

According to GMU Campus Police, a woman bathing on the third floor of the school's Madison Hall noticed someone holding a cell phone camera under a shower curtain May 3.

Police said the suspect, identified as GMU student Muayad Suleiman Ibrahim, fled and the victim chased after him.

"One of her dorm mates also got into the foot chase with the guy running across campus. They lost sight of him, and called the police," GMU Police PIO George Ginovsky said.

Police were able to locate Ibrahim by tracking his student ID card. He was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with unlawful filming.

A search warrant obtained by News4 states police looked for evidence in the crime at a Vienna, Va. residence.

News4's David Culver went to the residence Wednesday. A person who answered the door said he knows of Ibrahim, but wasn't friends with him.

"He had left something here when he came to see a friend of a friend," said the person, who gave his name only as Jason. "We were in full cooperation with the police when they came to the house, and we turned over any items that were his."

Those items included a laptop, according to the search warrant.

A GMU freshman living in Madison Hall said she thinks the incident was isolated.

"If it happened enough times before, somebody would have heard about it or noticed it," GMU student Mackenzie Bailey said.

A student conduct committee will determine whether Ibrahim should remain enrolled at GMU.

"He's not allowed to live on campus in any of our dormitories," Ginovsky said.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim has bonded out of jail and is due in court June 19.
