Parts of Skyline Drive Back Open After Snow, Ice Closed Road

A portion of Skyline Drive is back open after an early winter storm closed the entire length of the scenic roadway.

The season's first snow came earlier than usual, blanketing the region with snow and ice last week. The Blue Ridge Mountains saw between 3 and 5 inches of snow.

The National Park Service says Skyline Drive is now open from the Thornton Gap entrance station in Luray to the Swift Run entrance station in Elkton. The road remains closed from Front Royal to Thornton Gap, and from Swift Run to Rockfish Gap.

The National Park Service says crews are still trying to clear debris, snow and ice from the road.
