Shots Fired After Officer's Mom's Car Stolen

A U.S. Park Police officer's mother's car was stolen Monday morning in Maryland, leading to a car chase and shots fired.

According to court documents, the off-duty officer watched a man steal his mother's Toyota Corolla, which was unoccupied but running, from the 4300 block of 23rd Place in Temple Hills just before 7 a.m. The officer got into his car and chased down the suspect for several blocks.

When the officer confronted the suspect and asked him to get out of the car, the suspect revved the engine and began driving toward him. Documents state the officer then fired several shots into the inside of the car, which was later found abandoned in Hillcrest Heights.

U.S. Park Police arrested 20-year-old Rahman Elijah Mills of Hillcrest Heights at MedStar Hospital Monday night. He's charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and other charges.
