A day after Kaya Henderson was officially made chancellor of D.C. schools, she gets some good news: a new polls says a majority of District parents are feeling positive about their school system.
Fifty-three percent of those polled in the latest Washington-Post/Kaiser Family survey said they think that D.C. schools are doing either a "good" or "excellent" job, the Post reports. That’s the best rating parents have given schools in a decade.
Those warm feelings are a big turnaround from 2008, when only 31 percent of parents thought the city's schools were doing a good job. In the latest poll, Michelle Rhee, the former chancellor and a lightning rod for both parent and teacher scorn, gets a revised positive look: 55 percent of D.C. adults think in retrospect, she was doing a good job.
Two D.C. schools, Benjamin Banneker and School Without Walls in Foggy Bottom made Newsweek's list of the nation's top high schools this week.
