Organizers Seeking Volunteers for Senior Citizen Home Repairs

Organizers are seeking more volunteers to help repair 83 homes of low-income and disabled senior citizens in Prince George's County Saturday.

Maryland Congressman Steny Hoyer and Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker are expected to be among the volunteers helping with the effort.

Christmas in April*Prince George's County is organizing the event, but the group said they need more skilled tradespeople to join.

Volunteers are planning to help at houses all around the county. One homeowner is a 90-year-old Hyattsville woman. She is legally blind, uses a wheelchair and needs help with improving safety at her home. A disabled veteran in Suitland needs a ramp and handicap accessible bathroom. Organizers say a man in Glenn Dale has no heat or water. A Laurel woman with cerebral palsy needs help doing painting, yard work and gutter repair, they say.

Organizers say volunteers plan to start around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
