2 Adults Killed in Wrong-Way Crash in Md.; Toddler Injured

Two people were killed in a wrong-way crash on U.S. Route 50 outside of Annapolis, Maryland, Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Police say the driver of a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of Route 50 at about 1:30 p.m. when it hit another SUV and a car head-on between Ritchie Highway and Bay Dale Drive in Severna Park.

The Volkswagen driver, 22-year-old Laura Ashley Murphy, died at the scene.

The driver of the other SUV, 66-year-old Robert Skidmore, was trapped for more than an hour before being rescued from the vehicle. He was flown to Shock Trauma, where he was later pronounced dead, police said later Wednesday night.

Murphy's 14-month-old son was in her car and was injured. The toddler was flown to a hospital, where he is undergoing treatment, state police said.

The driver of the third vehicle involved in the crash was not hurt, police said.

All lanes of Route 50 have since reopened. The lanes were shut down for hours during the evening rush as police investigated.
